Stunning Fact: No Natural Gas Service For 8 Months In Part Of Jersey Shore

Losing electric service in a storm is old and repeated news.  But electric service is restored within about a week, even in the most devastating disasters.

Sandy, however, not only ravaged the electric grid but also devastated the natural gas distribution system in parts of the shore.  www.philly.com/philly/news/new_jersey/20121104_Million-plus_in_N_J__still_lack_power.html. Unlike electric service that has largely been restored, Seaside Heights in New Jersey will be without natural gas service for as long as 8 months.

"The entire gas distribution system has been compromised...There is no gas; we cannot live here..I don't know where these people are going to go."  Those are some of the quotations in the compelling Philadelphia Inquirer Story to which this post links.

More than half of American homes rely on natural gas to get through winter. Losing gas service is devastating, indeed.
